It ain't about bad beats, but good meets. People, that is. The people, or should I say characters, that inhabit poker cardrooms. The title of this blog came from one of those characters, a dealer by the name of Nick, who liked to embellish the traditional cry of, "Check or bet!" that typically follows the deal of the flop.
I'm not a journalist and I don't claim all of this is completely factual. I'm not a novelist either, so it's not total fiction. It's something in between. The sort of story you might hear from a buddy at the local bar. The things people say and do might be edited, polished, and juiced up a bit for effect.
Since these entries are inspired by real people and real incidents, I'm changing all the names to protect the innocent and the not-so-innocent. Even the cardrooms. There are no real cardrooms named Valhalla and Niflheim (as far as I know). They are real places, but those aren't their real names.
